It is now 2019, and I am beyond relieved that I’m not dealing with the problems of 2018. I went through some experiences that helped me learn to be more independent. I grew closer to some people and had fall outs with others. I’ve never been more confident over a new year than this one, and I know it’s because I (finally) created a list of resolutions for myself.
Everybody I know makes a New Years resolution, usually for the purpose of travelling or getting that dream job they’ve been waiting for. With my starting year in cosmetology school and working, it’s for sure going to be one busy year.
Here is my list of resolutions for this year:
Spend Less Money:
I have such a bad impulsive spending problem. Every time I get a paycheck, I’ll spend most of it on clothes and cosmetics and then force myself to save my remaining fifty dollars for the next week. It’s still taking some training, but I’m slowly seeing how much makeup and clothes I rarely use, so I decided to cut my spending unless I need something. This would give me more to save and spend on my bills.
Save to Meet My Idol:
Growing up, I watched the reruns of the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and the Pink Ranger was my idol (and one of the inspirations to training in archery). The actress, Amy Jo Johnson, has grown to make and direct her own movies, and she still inspires me.
I recalled my best friend sending me a link to the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), revealing Amy Jo Johnson would be attending. I’ve made it my life goal to meet all the original Rangers, and I’ve met the Red (Austin St. John), Blue (David Yost), and Green Ranger (Jason David Frank). I am determined to meet Amy Jo Johnson this year.
Spend Less Time with People I Don’t Like/Love:
I made the mistake of making time for people (family/friends) who either don’t respect me or care about me. I made it seem like a big deal and it resulted in me feeling so out of place. By the fall, I took a moment to reflect on my own choices and who I trusted and decided I don’t love my family like I used to, and I never needed anyone to lean back on. This year, I’m focusing on myself and putting myself before anyone who wouldn’t do the same for me.
